With Winter in full swing, even the die hards were scared of the plank and push ups. I left the milk outside last night and it was still cold when I woke up this morning. It was really chilly last night, but I fear the worse is yet to come.
We did our warm ups as per usual and I was a bit dreamy since I spend the whole of yesterday in a day spar getting pampered. Ja ja don't hate guys, it was my 4 year wedding anniversary and I decided to spoil the misses to a day spar and their complimentary slippers are keeping my toes warm as I type.
Anyway lets get back to last nights training shell we. After warm ups and stretches we worked on some evasive maneuvers Blocking a straight punch to the face and then following up with a strike or take down is one of the most basic forms of any Martial art. We trained to deflect a straight punch as well as it's partner, the follow up straight punch.
The basic idea is to deflect the punch slightly as well as move out of the way in case you miss the block with your arm. The other thing to consider is your body position once you have executed the deflection. Deflecting a right hand straight punch with your right hand provides you with more cover as well as an open attack vector lpus you get out of the line of fire, where as a left handed block would leave you slightly less protected and in a less than favorable target aria.
We then split up into groups for syllabus work. My partner will be grading 7th kyu and I went through the moves with him. I was unpleasantly surprised by my 7th kyu degradation and the revision did me a world of good.
In our line of art, repetition is the only way and lack there of is suicide. I will redouble my efforts in 7th kyu and make sure I don't mess up in the grading.
Embrace the shadows.
