I contacted a friend and he told me that he wanted to bring
his son to ninja kids. The kid’s class has enjoyed quite a bit of attention in
recent conversations between me and my training partner. He has taken it upon
himself to train the kids in the absence of the Sensei. I told my friend he is
more than welcome to bring his son and that I would meet him there.
I rushed to get to the dojo. I had a couple of things to do
before thought. My carbohydrate shake ran out and I needed to replace it, but
my efforts failed as the milk was still froze in the deep freezer. I was
running late so I decided to test if the shakes really made a difference... I
didn’t have much time to train over the festive but I did move house so I did a
lot of heavy lifting around the house. I watched my diet very closely and I
managed to keep my weight constant throughout.
We had a visitor. Sensei Daniel, who use to be the head
Sensei in our Dojo. He came all the way from the UK to spend the festive with
us. I felt strong and confident, but I noticed my flexibility fell and my stomach
started rumbling before we even started. We warmed up as usual, but with a lot
more moaning. We did bag work and most of the combinations ended up in a double
knee strike. The knee strike to the mid section is devastating, but it also
drains energy and by the end of the session most of the students we gasping for
air while others seemed a bit dizzy with over excretion.
We started working on some free hand combos. Just then the
mother of storms erupted outside. The rain pelted down on the zinc roof like
bullets against an armoured tank. We could hardly hear each other and the noise
caused a bit of disorientation. I was hoping we would wrestle a bit, but all I
got was a bit of a taste with my training partner who also seemed to want to
engage. The Sensei stopped us though before any real moves were made.
Every ones steam seemed to have run out and we decided to
call it a night. I really wanted to box a bit, but no one would accept the
challenge. As I got in the car and drove home though I felt my energy levels
dropping past dangerous and as I got home I was near collapse. The combination
of training and no additional energy source left me spent. My conclusion: Take supplements
while you train.
Embrace the shadows.
