I got to class and was surprised with another visitor. One
of the students that train with us on a Sunday came through to the Dojo.
Everyone seemed upbeat and the Sensei had to call us to line up for class. One
of the juniors took the warm-ups. He took us through a gruelling fitness
routine that left every one sweating and exhausted on the floor. No one, not
even the Sensei had the heart to do body conditioning. We partnered up however
to do variations on combinations from various strikes.
I was training with a junior and thoroughly enjoyed teaching
him. All the Senseis got a chance to devise new combinations and by the end of
the night I was drenched in sweat, but I had a good work out and felt
invigorated.
The art is really starting to grow on me now. My motions are
effortless and not only do I instinctively know where the right pressure points
and effective areas are, I also know where my opponent will be attacking from
next. My hand to hand combat techniques have improved with leaps and bounds, I
have become a teacher as much as a student and every time the Sensei uses me as
a demonstration dummy, it’s like I know what he’s going to do before he
explains what he wants us to do. I don’t need to see the moves anymore, I feel
them and it’s exciting to experience my own personal growth as a Ninja.
Embrace the shadows.
