I moped around the room begrudgingly, telling myself that I
should stay at home and not risk my cold getting worse. There was a war raging
in my head. I have done it last time, trained through the worst cold without
anti-bionics. I had a sore throat for weeks on end, but I kept up my training.
Eventually I decided to put my gi on and not do anything other than my Syllabus
work.
I told the Senseis that I am not well and wouldn’t be doing
anything to get my heart pumping. I kept myself in the back of the class and my
friend joined me. Together we just kept it light and stretched while the others
were pounding the bags. It was interesting to see the class from the other
side, how some students were performing and others were struggling.
Eventually it was time to do Syllabus work. The Sensei assigned
a junior to me and I went through his levels with him. Soon both of us were
sweating and I had to restrain myself. We had some fun with my level and the junior
wanted to know how things fitted together. I took him through the rest of the
Kyus between our levels demonstrating takedowns, locks and footwork. I was in
the zone and making a meal out of it. I am ready for Grading.
We ended class off with a greeting and I quickly took my wet
clothes off and did my best to say warm. I felt a little better this morning so
I think I will be ok next week. There will be no kissing in my house however...
Embrace the shadows.
