My house is like a hospital. I stop kissing my children and
wash my hands all the time. Both children walk around with a permanent white
squall around the nose aria and coffing fits interrupt my sleep. I have pulled
out all the stops to try and stay healthy, but took a bit of a nose dive since
Thursday. I decided to go to class, but to take it easy and sweat as little as possible.
I got to class and tolled the Sensei that I am not 100%, but
that I want to train. The class was called to order and the devastation started.
I went to the back of the class and did my own relaxed warm-ups. I stretched methodically
and did a couple of back rolls. The back roll is a quite daunting on the
concrete floor, you can easily bump and bruise your knee. It’s a good exercise
and I will do it again till I can do it without using my hands on the concrete.
We did a bit of body conditioning and I joined in. One of
the juniors trained with me. He was tense. Every one of his strikes was forceful
and strained. I could see why the Senseis were hammering me in the beginning about
being so tens. He was wasting a lot of energy and getting poor results. Soon he
was in pain.
After a couple of combinations we went over to syllabus. I
wanted to get the Tonfa down in my mind and make sure that I know how to use
this brute force striking weapon. I pretty much know the strikes and locks and
it felt good while I swung the weapon around my opponent’s arm and locked him
up. I asked a couple of questions and the Senseis demonstrated and cleared up
the last bit of my confusion. Now all I need is a little bit of training and I
will be spot on at the grading.
Embrace the shadows
