Yes it’s that time again. Last night was the last class before our regional grading and tomorrow I will be grading for just under three hours. Our grading start from the bottom and we work our way up to the kyu we are grading for. So I will be doing 9th, 8th, 7th and 6th kyus tomorrow. It’s going to be a cold one so bring some hot chocolate if you coming to watch, it’s at the Lions club in Pretoria, just left off the Atterbury off ramp. We start at 8H00 AM and the awards ceremony will be at about 5H00 PM.
Last night we did body conditioning again. I went up against a 1st kyu on Tuesday with body conditioning and was already quite bruised. My usual training partner is still recovering from flu so I went easy on him.
We then worked on some techniques on how to attack when an opponent grabbed you by the lapel. If your arms are on the outside of the opponents grab, Watch out for an incoming uppercut, you won’t be able to block it. If your opponent has hair you can do a hair latch takedown or at least get your other arm in for a palm heal strike to the jaw. Another effective technique is to grab the ear and pull the head down into a knee strike or head butt, you can get creative.
We went over to syllabus work and me and my partner finished up Defence against a gun to the head or body. With the Gun, scamming is very important. Pointing to your wallet before you grab the gun would bring your hands close to the weapon if its low. After wards I went through the whole of 6th kyu quickly with my partner just to double check that I knew every move.
I went home and prepared my wife to be my Uke tonight...
Embrace the shadows.
