I was a bit drained from the previous night’s eventful visit
to the MMA dojo in Sunning hill. Normally Tuesday nights are the more vigorous
evenings at our Dojo since the Senseis seem to think we loaf and pig out over
the weekend and it’s up to them to beat us back in line, fitness wise, on a
Tuesday night.
As we finished our pre-warm-ups the sensei smiled and said
that we are being handed over to our resident Kick-boxing black belt for some
fitness drills. I got a chilly feeling as he walked to the front. He has a lot of
fitness drills in his bag and he’s not afraid to drill us for the whole
evening. I rose to the challenge and pushed all the way as we did devastators
followed by a run to the complex gate about 100 meters away from the dojo
followed by 20 sit-ups. We did these ten times and by the tenth time I was in
bad shape and I had a stomach cramp, but I quickly recovered as we did body
conditioning.
We did syllabus work and the Sensei was keen on teaching me
Bo. We started off with the basics, going into Figure four and hammer locks. I
kept the weapon close and felt confident while performing multiple strikes as I
performed the techniques. We worked a bit on foot work and the sensei had many
additional helpful techniques and comments that I will practice over the
weekend. We ended off the class as a bunch of tired ninjas, ready to just go to
bed and sleep off the extreme exercise session. Fitness is paramount to life
and the price of being fit is far less than the price of losing one’s health
especially if one could have avoided it by just doing a bit of exercise every
day.
Embrace the shadow.
