I ate well throughout the day to keep my energy up in
anticipation of going full steam in class later. I got to class early and
practiced a bit with the sword. I practiced the sheath and my form. It’s amazing
how quickly swinging the sword around warms up the body. The one black belt
candidate joined me in the kata to make sure he knows the moves for the 10th.
We started with the plank, then some sit-ups and then we did
some devastators. I enjoyed them and felt good and ready for more intense training.
We partnered up and did a bit of bag work with some combinations. The sensei
split the class up in levels and asked me to train the juniors in 8th
Kyu. My friend suggested I take the syllabus book and off we went.
8th kyu in Ninjutsu trains the student all the
strikes and all the kicks. It is the second level in NinjaSA and forms the
basis for all attacks. I decided to partner the students up with one of them
holding the bag while the other did the strike five times. They would then swop
and the other partner would then do the strike. I elaborated on the target
areas before we went into the detail of each strike and kick. Some of the
strikes I asked the students to do off the bag as the body provides a more
realistic target. I enjoyed teaching the
students, for its only through teaching something that one truly learns the
finer detail.
It was a good class. I had one of the students partner with
me and had him strike the bag without swopping. I got good body conditioning
and he got a very good work out. We greeted and went on our separate ways.
Embrace the shadows.
