Birthday Thursday

I took an early afternoon from work and caught up on some sleep and played a bit with the children. I was running a bit late and had to rush to not be late for class. When I arrived, I was a bit taken aback by small amount of students that came before me and I thought we were going to have a very small class indeed, but fortunately a couple more came and two more seniors joined us. I asked one of the sensei’s to show me a bit of the Jo. I was amazed at how versatile the weapon is. I played a bit with the bloom stick at home and even that seemed quite deadly.

We started class with the plank as per usual followed with some crunches and then one of our black-belt candidates took us through stretches. He also made us do some spider push-ups. This push-up involves bringing your knee up to your elbow when going down and by alternating the knee you bring up in turn you might well get the feeling of climbing a wall...

We then did body conditioning and then went over to some block and strike combinations. We took quite some time with the combinations, letting our creativity loose on the application of different scenarios. We then went over to some bag work and I was dripping with sweat by the time Sensei said we only have about fifteen minutes left to go before we are out of time. I suggested that we carry on with the bags and focus on some kicks as well.

As we lined up to greet my friend blurted out that it was my birthday... I knew that this would not bode well with a bunch of ninjas in my midst. They promptly lined up to each punch me in the stomach for my birthday...

Embrace the shadows.
